HOW TO RECOVER FROM A HICCUP IN TRAINING

HOW TO RECOVER FROM A HICCUP IN TRAINING

Consistently training four to five times a week can be a big ask with everyone already so busy with family, home and work life. So you may have hit a point where you’ve skipped a few sessions, perhaps illness has prevented you from training this week or even the weather – especially since these winter mornings can be cold and it’s dark by 5pm.

But even if you’ve had a break or can’t get outside to train, all is not lost.

Indoor options

On a cold, wet or windy day, visit the gym for a treadmill workout. Alter the speed and incline to a challenging pace and intensity.

TOP FOUR RUNNINGS ACCESSORIES WHILE TRAINING FOR HARRINGTON FUN RUN

TOP FOUR RUNNINGS ACCESSORIES WHILE TRAINING FOR HARRINGTON FUN RUN

Running is as much a mental game as a physical one. Keeping your mind interested while running the same track day in, day out is just as important as building physical strength.

Running Apps

One way to keep it interesting is with a running app for your iPhone or Android. Whether you want to try out new routes, strive to be faster or have better endurance, there are a range of running apps – such as RunKeeper, Strava Run or Endomondo.

Training Watch

Many running apps can be combined with a sport training watch which syncs to monitor your heart rate, steps taken and calories burned.

After your first week of training, you should be feeling fitter and start to build up your distances and beating your times. This week, we focus on general conditioning and building up your overall fitness level and strength ahead of the Harrington Fun Run.

When you first start training, aim for general conditioning training that is mixing up interval running / walking till you can run further and beat previous times and distances. Regardless of the distance you are running, there are some insights to getting ready for the Fun Run that will ensure you have a great time and avoid any injury.

SELECTING THE RIGHT VENUE FOR YOUR CORPORATE FUNCTION

SELECTING THE RIGHT VENUE FOR YOUR CORPORATE FUNCTION
CHAMBER-Presentation

Selecting the right venue is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your next corporate event. Get it wrong and your boss and colleagues won’t be happy. But get it right and you’ll be the creative genius who selected the perfect venue for the perfect work event.

Harrington Grove Country Club has put together a checklist of what you should look for in a venue for your next corporate function or conference.

  1. Capacity
Know how many attendees you are expecting at your corporate function and don’t settle for a venue that can’t accommodate.

  2. Room set up
How do you need your room set up – theatre style, classroom, cocktail boardroom, banquet? The capacity of the room will change depending on your set up, so know what you need first and check that the venue can accommodate your needs.

  3. Access
Ensure the facility is easily accessible for your delegates, including special considerations such as wheelchairs. Parking or public transport can also be important. Ask whether there are any parking restrictions, cost for parking etc.

  4. Audio visual requirements
Will your event use a lot of technical audio-visual? If so, what is the in-house support for AV during the event?  There is nothing worse than delegates waiting around as the presentation isn’t working. Also, can you darken the room for the presentation and then open it up for drinks and dinner?

  5. Food and beverage packages
Long after the event, most people will talk about two things – the location and the food. Check the catering at the venue, request a tasting of the sample menu or even request a menu to be designed around your theme or event style. Also, drinks packages are usually available, but work out the best cost structure for your event.

Harrington Grove Country Club is an exquisite Sydney event venue catering for corporate functions, business meetings, conferences and special events in the Macarthur area.

Fresh Fillet of Premium Salt Water Barramundi from Cone Bay, WA

Cone Bay Saltwater Barramundi exhibit characteristics like no other barramundi in the world. This is, quite simply, because there is no other location like Cone Bay in the world. The extremely remote island sits amid the world-renowned Buccaneer Archipelago, comprised of some 1100 picturesque and unspoilt islands. A twice daily racing tide ranging between seven and eleven metres rips through the bay meaning that Cone Bay Barramundi are always at work.  This results in an animal that is terrifically robust and, externally, in absolutely brilliant condition.

Tips for summertime training

Harrington Grove’s extensive network of shared pathways and enchanted bushland make it the ideal place to get outdoors and get fit. It is especially beautiful in summer, when the days are longer and the bush is vibrant and alive. However, it is crucial to exercise with caution during the warmer months to ensure you’re safe against the heat. Mark Molumby, Director of Grove Health & Fitness, has the following tips to beat the heat:

  • Always carry a bottle of water with you when walking, jogging or cycling in the heat, and ensure you’re hydrated before you set off
  • When possible exercise at dawn or dusk when the weather is cooler and the sun is less vigorous
  • Use insect repellents to avoid nasty bites
  • Wear lightweight clothes (workout clothes are best) to keep cooler
  • Slowly build up your summer workouts; your body needs to gradually adjust to your activity during the warmer months. Don’t push it without having built up to it
  • Recognise the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which range from headaches to high fever. Seek medical attention if necessary

“The most important thing is to use common sense in deciding what is safe and what may prove dangerous. Be sensible about what your body can tolerate, and enjoy it,” says Mark.
