Focus On Community Living At Harrington Grove

Focus On Community Living At Harrington Grove

The calendar has been full over the last couple of months at the Harrington Grove Country Club and there are many more events on the horizon for 2010.

The Residents’ Christmas Party which was held at the end of last year was a great success. There was a jumping castle, face painting, BBQ and or course everyone loved swimming and playing tennis at the Country Club’s great facilities. Approximately 120 guests attended the day, including lots of children who were very excited when Santa made an appearance. We would especially like to thank the team from Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre for the great Martial Arts Demonstration which was one of the day’s highlights.

The Australia Day celebrations were also enjoyed by everyone at Harrington Grove Country Club. In true Aussie style there was a BBQ for new residents and their guests, followed by a game of cricket and swimming in the Country Club pool. It was a sweltering summer’s day with lots of fun and laughter and guests took home Australia Day packs which were won as lucky door prizes. The Cocktail Parties have also been very popular and were a wonderful way to welcome our new residents. The last one was held on March 4 and it was great to see so many future neighbours getting together; no doubt the beginnings of some great friendships were started. One of the wonderful features of Harrington Grove is the fantastic people that will be living here.. and of course working here! Harrington Grove is all about community spirit and our cocktail parties mark the beginning of many residents’ events to follow in 2010.

We Hope You And Your Families Had A Safe And Relaxing Easter Break.

Hopefully you now feel rested and recharged ready to resume 2010, which seems to be forging ahead at a great pace!

Harrington Grove is looking sensational as construction work gains momentum and the first of the residents begin to move in. The grounds are so lush and green at the moment and our many magnificent trees are steadily growing, helped along by a few days of heavy but much appreciated rain over the past few months. If you haven’t been to see us lately, you’ll be amazed at the changes.

The first homes have now been completed in ‘Araucaria’ with many more are under construction and due for completion over the next few months. The second precinct called ‘Maculata’ was released in late 2009, earlier than originally planned, to meet the high level of demand. As this demand continues, we have started preparing the third precinct with bulk earthworks now underway.

Welcome to the new residents at Harrington Grove

Welcome to the new residents at Harrington Grove

One of the first families to call Harrington Grove ‘HOME’ is Jennifer and Scott Granger along with their 2 teenage sons who moved in last month. They are thoroughly looking forward to their new lifestyle here.

When the Grangers were first looking to purchase it was the strong focus on community and lifestyle they saw at Harrington Grove that was one of the deciding factors for them. “We liked the sense of community and were of course immediately attracted to the Country Club with its tennis courts, gym and swimming pool – all of which is fully maintained for us. There is a great relaxed atmosphere and the Country Club staff have been wonderful,” says Mrs Granger.

The spectacular architect designed Country Club at Harrington Grove is nestled amongst the homesites which means residents are within easy walking distance to the tennis courts, 25m swimming pool and fully equipped gym, which are for the exclusive use by Harrington Grove residents. The Country Club is the heart and soul of Harrington Grove, the focal point where residents and their families can meet up with friends and neighbours and relax, interact and enjoy themselves.

Our new 'Pool Deck Dining' events are a great success

Our first Harrington Grove Pool Deck Dining event was held on the 11th December. This was a glamorous sit down three course dinner, with pre dinner canapés, held around the deck of the Country Club pool where residents and their guests enjoyed the ambience and tranquillity of our beautiful Country Club's grounds.

Due to the evening's success, further dinners have followed featuring a 'Gourmet Grill' with a menu designed and cooked on the poolside barbecues.

Due to rain, our most recent pool deck dinner was relocated to the Country Club balcony overlooking the picturesque grounds. The evening was aglow with candles and soft lighting creating a relaxing ambience. These pool deck evenings have been very popular and will certainly be on the calendar, along with other special events, for residents and their invited guests throughout the year.

Harrington Grove Residents' Rendezvous off to a great start

Our first Residents' Rendezvous for the year was held on Friday the 4th February. As always it was a fun night and a great get together for our residents. This evening was planned to be held poolside but due to the extreme heat we had to relocate to the function rooms at the Country Club.

With over 70 residents in attendance the evening spilled onto the balcony as the evening temperature cooled. Children enjoyed a movie in the adjoining room, whilst the adults indulged in conversation and laughter.

The next Residents' Rendezvous will be held on Friday 8th April at 6.30pm. To assist with adequate catering, please RSVP by Tuesday 5th April by calling (02) 4631 3200

The repair of Harrington Park homestead has commenced

The repair of Harrington Park homestead has commenced

The majestic homestead perched on the hill at Harrington Park is currently undergoing some repair and conservation work.

The homestead began its life as a humble stone and clay brick cottage when it was built by Captain William Douglas Campbell in 1817. Over the years it passed through many different owners and has had various extensions, changes and uses before growing into its present form; an elegant Georgian style home with a Victorian veranda. Sir Warwick Fairfax bought the homestead in 1944 as a weekend retreat and it has remained with his wife Lady Fairfax since. Sir Warwick made extensive alterations to the homestead and he spent much time there with his family reading and writing. He wrote several plays, three of which were performed in Sydney, and he also wrote a philosophical book during this time.

"Although the homestead is currently covered in scaffolding the actual work being done is more like gentle repair, fixing joinery and some under pinning," says Lester Tropman, of Tropman & Tropman Architects, specialists in heritage conservation. "The work is being carefully undertaken to respect the home's Fairfax history; to repair it to good order so it can be used as a family home again."

Wednesday, 26 January – Australia Day Celebrations at Harrington Grove

Australia Day at Harrington Grove is always a great day and 2011 was no exception! The weather was hot, the pool was packed and the bbq firing when over 50 families attended and barbecued up a storm. A portable bar was set up for the day as fabulous bush band 'The Larrikins' entertained us with some spirited live music. The day would not have been complete without a traditional Aussie game of backyard cricket and after lunch a spectacular water flight broke out with all the children (and most of the adults) getting involved.

Australia Day at Harrington Grove this year was a wonderful opportunity for our residents to enjoy the fantastic facilities and spend time with new friends and neighbours.

Tennis Days in January were lots of fun

A number of children and adults turned up to have a hit with our new Director of Tennis, John, and some of his Elite Players at the Tennis Fun Day on Wednesday 12th January. Although the weather had cancelled the Monday sessions, we were able to reschedule all residents to come along on Wednesday. Children of all ages, plus a few adults had a taste of what's to come. The following week 15 children aged from 4 to 14 years attended our first Tennis and Sports Camp at Harrington Grove between the 17th and 19th January. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and on the last day there was a presentation and a sausage sizzle. We would like to extend a special thanks to John, James and Ross for doing such a sensational job and to all residents who were part of the first Harrington Grove Tennis and Sports Camp.

The Tennis Open Day was held in conjunction with Tennis NSW on Sunday 6th February was a fun filled social tennis day for residents at Harrington Grove. Everyone had a great time with coaching, games, a jumping castle, sausage sizzle, an adult tennis clinic plus an exhibition match. What a great day!

Spring Fair at Harrington Grove

Harrington Grove's Spring Fair, held on Sunday 13th November, was a fun filled day, with beautiful weather accompanied by jazz music, tantalising roast lunches and finished off with pool entertainment.

The day commenced as Jess Pollard Trio and Champagne Sundaes performed impressive modern and traditional jazz music in the amphitheatre. While parents indulged their tastebuds with spit roast lunches with various choices of succulent meats and freshly made salads, the kids got wet and wild on "Skull Island". Some even had a game of bocce on the lawn and a friendly cricket match with their neighbours. It was a great day of entertainment, food and activities for the whole family.

The Racquet Club has various coaching programs available for adults and children, which include initiatives by Tennis Australia, plus much more. Coaching terms operate over 10 weeks and these coincide with school terms. During the school holidays we hold a number of activities including a 'Tennis and Sports Fun Camp' for children of all ages. Children are welcome to bring friends and family along to the camps. The next camp will be held between Monday 16th and Thursday 19th January 2012.

If you would like to find out more about the programs or holiday camps, contact the community team on (02) 4631 3200 or visit www.grovelife.com.au. Stay tuned for more action on the courts in 2012.

Greening the Grove

Turning into Harrington Grove’s tree-lined driveway, you immediately notice the magnificent grounds; the work of talented on-site nurseryman, David and maintenance experts, Andrew, Chris and Vince. David manages the estates’ on-site tree nursery which turns over approximately 500 trees annually of mostly large, ornamental, deciduous trees such as Maples, Pyrus and Oaks.

David has been involved with the Harrington Park development since its inception in 1994, having set up the on-site tree nursery in preparation of the landscaping requirements of the estate.

During the development period, David and his team have been responsible for planting all the trees in the streets and parks of Harrington Park and Harrington Grove.
