Focus On Community Living At Harrington Grove

Focus On Community Living At Harrington Grove

The calendar has been full over the last couple of months at the Harrington Grove Country Club and there are many more events on the horizon for 2010.

The Residents’ Christmas Party which was held at the end of last year was a great success. There was a jumping castle, face painting, BBQ and or course everyone loved swimming and playing tennis at the Country Club’s great facilities. Approximately 120 guests attended the day, including lots of children who were very excited when Santa made an appearance. We would especially like to thank the team from Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre for the great Martial Arts Demonstration which was one of the day’s highlights.

The Australia Day celebrations were also enjoyed by everyone at Harrington Grove Country Club. In true Aussie style there was a BBQ for new residents and their guests, followed by a game of cricket and swimming in the Country Club pool. It was a sweltering summer’s day with lots of fun and laughter and guests took home Australia Day packs which were won as lucky door prizes. The Cocktail Parties have also been very popular and were a wonderful way to welcome our new residents. The last one was held on March 4 and it was great to see so many future neighbours getting together; no doubt the beginnings of some great friendships were started. One of the wonderful features of Harrington Grove is the fantastic people that will be living here.. and of course working here! Harrington Grove is all about community spirit and our cocktail parties mark the beginning of many residents’ events to follow in 2010.

'Araucaria' & 'Maculata' Update

'Araucaria' & 'Maculata' Update

The second precinct at Harrington Grove, ‘Maculata,’ comprising 71 homesites, takes its name from the surrounding Spotted Gum trees Corymbia (Eucalyptus) maculata.

These are beautiful trees characterised by their spotted trunk and dark green foliage. Like the first precinct, ‘Maculata’ offers generous homesites (ranging between 700m2 and just under 1200m2 with an average lot size of 825m2) nestled in unspoilt bushland. Many of the homesites have views of the surrounding landscape and district views to Camden and of course all will be in walking distance to the Country Club.

Harrington Grove is a family oriented development and offers picnic areas, parks and playground areas for the kids in each precinct. At Maculata the playground is already complete, prior to the sale of the homesites, in readiness for the new community which will soon evolve around it. These community elements are an integral part of Harrington Grove.

South West Sydney’s Property Industry Gets Together For A Good Cause

South West Sydney’s Property Industry Gets Together For A Good Cause

On Saturday March 13 over 420 people from South West Sydney’s land development and building industry united to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research at a glamorous formal event hosted by the Harrington Estates team at Harrington Grove Country Club. The night was a huge success resulting in a $100,000 cheque being given to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and an additional $75,000 to the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute. Both groups conduct valuable research into Motor Neurone Disease.

Motor Neurone Disease is the name given to a group of closely related neurological diseases where the nerve cells (neurons) controlling the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow, stop working. MND is a cruel and insidious disease; currently there is no cure and the disease is terminal, usually within 2 – 3 years of diagnosis. One Australian a day dies of this disease. Thus there is an urgent need for more research in order to find a cure.

The night was also highly informative with Mr Graham Opie, CEO of Motor Neurone Disease Association, and Mr Steve Vucic from the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute, speaking about Motor Neurone Disease and its devastating effects.

Spring at Harrington Grove

Spring at Harrington Grove

Spring is upon us; that lovely time of year when the weather is starting to get warmer and images of new growth, colourful flowers in full bloom and fresh beginnings all come to mind. As Harrington Grove has over 280 hectares of land preserved in its natural state, Springtime is particularly beautiful and significant on the estate.

During the year many environmental initiatives and extensive conservation and rejuvenation work has been carried out. We have planted over 250,000 new plants and trees and our onsite nursery is nurturing plants that are ordinarily difficult to grow.

Some of the various initiatives carried out include extensive weed control, creek bed stabilisation and work on the prevention of soil erosion. As well as nurturing our beautiful natural environment, the seeds have also been planted for the growth of a wonderful new community which is expected to thrive, with a natural backdrop that is nothing short of breathtaking.

Community spirit is at the heart of Harrington Grove

When the first residents of Harrington Grove move in early next year, not only will they be living in an idyllic location, they will also be planting the first seeds to becoming part of a close knit and evolving community.

The first of the residents have already started to get involved and learn about their new community at a recent cocktail party which was held by Harrington Estates to welcome new residents. The evening was a great success and a tremendous opportunity for residents to meet their future neighbours and forge new friendships. The ‘Welcome Cocktail Parties’ are now a regular event on the Harrington Grove calendar and will be a great chance to learn about some of the many community initiatives which are already in place. One such initiative is the Harrington Grove ‘Mobi-Q’, a purpose built mobile barbeque and trailer, similar to the one used by the Harrington Park community for the past 7 years for street parties and other celebrations - all at absolutely no cost to residents.

On Father’s Day earlier this month Geoff and Susana Woods were officially the first to use the new outdoor barbeque facilities at the Country Club. Taking full advantage of the great new facilities and the fantastic weather we understand that the christening of the barbeque all went well and a thoroughly good time was had by all.

Meet Harrington Grove’s new community team

Meet Harrington Grove’s new community team

At Harrington Grove a Community Welcome Program is today being established. Tina Green is Harrington Grove’s Community Manager and she will also manage the running of the club and facilities. Working closely with Community Coordinator Lynette Richardson, together they will be responsible for day to day managing of the Country Club, organising community functions, events and social activities at Harrington Grove. Both Tina and Lynette can be contacted at the Country Club and are happy to assist with any queries or information that you may require.

The new program is already taking shape with welcome kits including branded towels, T-shirts, water bottles and bags already waiting for the first residents when they settle. When a similar program was established some 15 years earlier at Harrington Park, it resulted in the creation of a number of social clubs and associations being run by the residents themselves, including the Community Association, Youth, Arts, the Over 55s
and various sporting clubs.

At Harrington Grove we are committed to encouraging and supporting social and recreation initiatives for residents. However, unlike other developments, this assistance and interest will continue long after Harrington Grove is established.

Highway intersection update

Highway intersection update

On the road to success. Harrington Estates is privately funding initiatives to improve safety and reduce congestion.

Harrington Estates is pleased to announce the beginning of work on their new privately funded intersection at Cobbitty Road and Camden Valley Way. Currently there is a lot of bulk earth works underway and the building of retaining walls on Camden Valley Way is also in progress. Additionally the services are being relocated to make way for the road at the intersection. Work is progressing well and the new intersection is expected to be complete by mid 2010.

Ecoscape update

Ecoscape update

As Spring is the season of growth and rejuvenation, this is also a great time to review the extensive ecological restoration work being done at Harrington Grove.

Over the past 12 months a lot of work has gone into the restoration of 2 creeks on site, with the planting of over 250,000 plants and trees, extensive weed eradication as well as the Cumberland Plain Woodland regeneration.

You may have noticed the sea of green Grow Bags at Harrington Grove. Each new plant is protected by a Grow Bag to help guard it from animals, weeds and the elements. These bags are reused – in fact the current bags were originally used on the first trees at the bottom of the Creek section. When the plants start to thrive, after about a year, the Grow Bags are removed and then reused on the next of the new plants.

Celebrating the Journey

Celebrating the Journey

For the past 16 years a skilled team of engineers, community planners, designers, and landscapers have invested countless hours creating the spectacular, master planned community that is now Harrington Park. The project drew to a close with those involved reminiscing over the developments most memorable moments.

But perhaps the one whom remembers the most is Lady Mary Fairfax. Her husband Sir Warwick Fairfax purchased the land over 65 years ago, his vision was that he and his wife would one day create an idyllic community on the property he loved so dearly.

In 1981 Sir Warwick approached Camden Council with an application to rezone the Harrington Park estate. It took five years for approval and the land was rezoned from rural to urban in 1986. Just as things were beginning to progress, Sir Warwick passed away after a long illness. Lady Mary Fairfax stepped in and began to spearhead the next stage of development to see her husband’s dream fulfilled.
