Final five homesites up for sale in Dancerwood, Harrington Grove

Prestigious south western suburb Harrington Grove is almost complete and the company behind the successful community Harrington Estates is about to sell the final five blocks of land in its Dancerwood precinct.

Harrington Grove has bucked the trend of decreasing lot sizes in Sydney with larger than average blocks of land. Over the past 10 years, lot sizes in Sydney’s new housing estates have been gradually decreasing

“We’ve kept the best five homesites for last and they’ll go under the hammer on Saturday, 5 December. They range in size from 871 metres square to 1,400, and are nestled within the bushland setting of Harrington Forest, overlooking the vista of Harrington Grove and Camden.

Record prices for final homesites sold in Dancerwood, Harrington Grove

Record prices for final homesites sold in Dancerwood, Harrington Grove

Saturday’s (5 December 2020) auction of the final five blocks of land in Harrington Grove’s Dancerwood precinct saw record prices for Harrington Estates and what is thought to be a sales record for the region.

The prices for the five blocks ranged from $770,000 to $1.205 million, with plenty of healthy competition from buyers.

Harrington Grove also bucks the trend on lot sizes, with the final five homesites in Dancerwood ranging in size from 871 square metres to 1,400 square metres, while the Sydney median according to the UDIA was 380 square metres in 2019.

Historic Harrington Park Homestead listed for sale after 75 years of Fairfax ownership

Historic Harrington Park Homestead listed for sale after 75 years of Fairfax ownership

For the first time in 75 years, historic Harrington Park Homestead is being listed for sale via expressions of interest. The Georgian homestead was the country retreat of Sir Warwick Fairfax and Lady (Mary) Fairfax for many years and has been lovingly restored.

The centrepiece of the 19.9-acre (8-hectare) property is Harrington Park Homestead, which was originally built in 1817 by Scottish Sea Captain William Campbell. Campbell built the first part of the homestead which has been added to over the years. The house has been owned by five different families during its 200-year history and each of these families has put their own stamp on it.

The unique property is being offered for sale through Harrington Estates, the developer of Harrington Park, Harrington Grove, and Catherine Park Estate.

Top Tips: Caring For The Trees That Make Streets Beautiful

Top Tips: Caring For The Trees That Make Streets Beautiful

The street trees are an important feature of Harrington Grove and provide the beautiful tree-lined streets you see today. In addition to their aesthetic value, trees act as habitats and food sources for a range of local fauna while yielding positive environmental returns. Although trees can be very forgiving of any ‘green thumb’ mistakes, the following tips can help ensure that your trees remain strong and colourful:

  1. WATERING
  2. Give your trees a good soaking at least once a week. Trees require more water than turf, so do not rely on lawn irrigation as it does not provide sufficient water.

  3. FERTILISING
  4. Fertilise your tree once a year with a good organic fertiliser. Spring is always a good time to fertilise.

Bush Mate initiatives

Bush Mate initiatives

Since its very inception, Harrington Grove has aimed to blend with the natural environment, creating a seamless relationship between the estate and its surrounds. The Bush Mate program seems to almost echo these intentions as they promote a closer relationship between residents and the natural landscape that surrounds them.

The Bush Mate initiative is a community engagement and education program run by the National Parks Association of NSW with the support of Greening Australia, WWF, The University of Sydney and the Greater Sydney Local Land Services.

The Bush Mate program seeks to encourage a respectful and sustainable relationship between local residents and their natural surroundings. This initiative aims to increase the connection between the community and the local bushland. Adopting a more connected relationship with the natural environment does not always require large changes to your lifestyle.

The Bush Mate program recommends such small changes as:Designing

  • Designing a backyard that is both bird and native animal-friendly

Imagine if every family in Harrington Grove designed their backyard to attract native birds and wildlife. Not only would we be providing a much-needed haven for these lovely creatures, we would be able to enjoy the variety of Australian wildlife that was part of our day-to-day lives.

  • Controlling weeds

Dominant weed species are damaging to the native Australian flora and fauna. By playing a small part and consistently controlling the weeds in your area, you can greatly minimise the impact these noxious plants have on the entire area.

Harrington Grove: Training the next generation of tennis stars

Harrington Grove: Training the next generation of tennis stars

There are only a few other sports that capture the Australian imagination as much as tennis. We hold a special place in our collective hearts for tennis stars such as Pat Rafter, Evonne Goolagong Cawley and the newly retired Lleyton Hewitt. At Harrington Grove, we like to think that one of Australia’s next champions could already be in our midst… we just need to be there for them at the start of their journey.

Living in the Harrington Grove community provides an abundance of opportunities for health, well-being and enjoyment, but it also provides the opportunity to excel at what could be a life-changing talent. Our tennis facilities not only accommodate those who enjoy a casual game, but our professional and experienced coaching staff can help your child reach their full potential.

Our tennis facilities, located at both the Country Club and the Magnolia Club, provide the perfect arena to pursue talents in the safety, security and convenience of their very own estate. The new Michelia Club will also include tennis facilities when it opens.

Harrington Grove tennis facilities provide both camp style and lesson training alternatives that will actively feed your child’s passion for tennis, develop their natural talent, and help them to form life-long interests in this prestigious sport.

Previous Summer Tennis and Sports Camp were a great success with both children and parents alike. Held in early January this year, many of our resident families took advantage of the four-day tennis camp, with everyone involved having an excellent time as part of their school holiday activities. Our Tennis and Sports Camp also provided the perfect opportunity for our residents to get to know each other in a fun and social environment.

If you are interested in the tennis coaching programs, schedules or facilities available to Harrington Grove residents, make a booking through Grove Life or contact our Community Manager.

Conservation and Sustainability at Harrington Grove

Conservation and Sustainability at Harrington Grove

Harrington Grove contains the largest privately owned and managed conservation area of Cumberland Plain Woodland, a critically endangered ecological community with over 262 hectares (647 acres) of land preserved in its natural state. The total size of the site is 486 hectares (1200 acres), yet only 40% (480 acres) will ever be developed. The remaining 60% will remain natural bushland, maintained by the community scheme of Harrington Grove. When completed, the estate will contain approximately 1400 homes in discrete precincts that are integrated with the natural environment.

Before development began, Harrington Estates recognised that the significant stands of Cumberland Plain Woodland in Harrington Grove were under threat. The property was zoned rural but rural uses were not sustainable and the woodland was deteriorating.

Harrington Estates saw the opportunity to develop the area in an environmentally-sensitive manner that would provide sound environmental and social outcomes.

The existence of the extensive areas of woodland was a major consideration in the rezoning process and planning of the development. The treatment of the bushland and the consideration of its future care and maintenance resulted in an ecological corridor forming a central part of the development. Planned to link the areas of high value Cumberland Plain Woodland, the ecological corridors are being restored under a comprehensive ten-year vegetation restoration program that is being overseen by Eco Logical Australia.

Designated as a fauna habitat development area, active regeneration and restoration of ecological communities is continually taking place under a comprehensive Conservation Management Plan, creating a safe environment for birds, possums, wallabies and other wildlife to flourish in peace alongside their human counterparts at Harrington Grove.

Celebrating exotic spices with Moroccan dishes added to the Harrington’s Menu

Celebrating exotic spices with Moroccan dishes added to the Harrington’s Menu

Harringtons Bar and Grill continue to deliver a fresh and innovative menu with this month’s the addition of several Moroccan spice inspired Dishes.

Preserved lemons are a key ingredient in many Moroccan tagine recipes, and our chefs have incorporated these flavours beautifully into new entrees and mains.

A delicious entrée to start with is the new Moroccan Prawns, cooked in Moroccan spices and served with preserved lemon, chickpeas , cherry tomatoes and Pane Di Casa. This dish can be cooked Gluten Free if required.

Our main menu includes two new tagine dishes encompassing the spices and flavours of Morocco. The Lamb and Prune Tagine is certainly a traditional North African flavour that celebrates succulent lamb shanks while the Chicken Tagine highlights the preserved lemon and spices that make this style of cooking desired.

Cooking tagine style is similar to slow cooking. The tagine's conical shape makes a uniquely moist, hot cooking environment for the dish being cooked. The base is wide and shallow, and the tall lid fits snugly inside. As the food cooks, steam rises into the cone. It condenses then trickles down the sides back into the dish.
To accompany the exotic new Moroccan inspired dishes, Harringtons have a new side dish of Tumeric and Cumin Chat Potatoes which have a delightful crust of Moroccan flavour.

The Amazing Race at Harrington Grove

The Amazing Race at Harrington Grove

On a forecasted freezing morning in Harrington Grove, 14 teams hit the course in a bid to be crowed the Inaugural Harrington Grove Amazing Race champions.

Teams made their way around four precincts; Magnolia, Maculata, Dianella and Lomandra, before racing to the finishing line at the Country Club. Teams visited each check point along the way, completing activities and solving puzzles to get the clues to move further throughout the course. Some of the activities included Grand Slam tennis challenges, fitness challenges including hanging from monkey bars and holding a plank position, as well as completing food challenges (do you like blue cheese?) and taking selfies with Sir Warwick Fairfax.

The course ended with a game of ‘The Price is Right’ at the finish line before everyone enjoyed a sausage sizzle.
