Saturday’s (5 December 2020) auction of the final five blocks of land in Harrington Grove’s Dancerwood precinct saw record prices for Harrington Estates and what is thought to be a sales record for the region.

The prices for the five blocks ranged from $770,000 to $1.205 million, with plenty of healthy competition from buyers.

These prices are well above median prices for greenfield land in Sydney. The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) reports that the median lot price for Sydney in 2019 was $459,000. Harrington Grove also bucks the trend on lot sizes, with the final five homesites in Dancerwood ranging in size from 871 square metres to 1,400 square metres, while the Sydney median according to the UDIA was 380 square metres in 2019.

Prestigious south western suburb Harrington Grove is almost complete and the company behind the successful community Harrington Estates is about to sell the final five blocks of land in its Dancerwood precinct.

For the first time in 75 years, historic Harrington Park Homestead is being listed for sale via expressions of interest. The Georgian homestead was the country retreat of Sir Warwick Fairfax and Lady (Mary) Fairfax for many years and has been lovingly restored.

The centrepiece of the 19.9-acre (8-hectare) property is Harrington Park Homestead, which was originally built in 1817 by Scottish Sea Captain William Campbell. Campbell built the first part of the homestead which has been added to over the years. Harrington Grove’s prestigious Michelia Club has won the enviable ‘Hospitality Buildings – New Up To $10,000,000’ award at the Master Builders Association (MBA) Excellence in Construction Awards, held at The Star Sydney in November.

Opened in May, Michelia Club joins the Harrington Grove Country Club and Magnolia Club as destinations for Harrington Grove’s discerning residents, complete with a full-sized tennis court, basketball and netball practice areas, swimming pool, barbecue facilities, children's playground, picnic spaces, gazebo, communal seating areas and a gymnasium.

The building was constructed by Dynamic Projects Pty Ltd. The award commended the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders and the many high-end design features. These include the feature stone façade, parquetry flooring and tongue-and-groove ceilings with exposed roof members. The seamless synergy between indoor and outdoor spaces is another standout feature.

Complemented by the Harrington Grove Country Club and Magnolia Club, Michelia Club has been developed for Harrington Grove’s discerning residents and represents the ultimate in class and quality that has become synonymous with Harrington Grove. Chocolate, hot cross buns and squeals from overjoyed children rang out throughout Harrington Grove as the festivities of Easter were in full force.

The Harrington Hop was lapped up by parents and children of Harrington Grove alike in an afternoon of Easter merriment. The adults enjoyed fresh hot cross buns slathered in butter, accompanied by a free coffee from the coffee van. They were able to enjoy them in peace, as their children were completely enthralled in their chocolate goodie bags, an Alice in Wonderland-inspired show, a range of arts and crafts projects, striking face painting and a visit from the Easter Bunny himself, who had even more eggs to hand out!

Residents went home with full tummies, full Easter baskets and complete engagement with the Easter spirit.

The long-awaited construction of Michelia Club is well and truly underway, with the site becoming a hive of activity in the past few months. Australia Day 2018 at Harrington Grove was our largest event ever, with over 800 people turning out on a bright summer’s day to celebrate the day as a community.

To be expected, the pool was the hot ticket for the day, but for those a bit more adventurous, four giant waterslides were another great option for kids and adults alike to cool down.

At midday, we fired up the BBQ and the free sausage sizzle fed the crowd for the whole day, with snow cones and Ice-cream giving everyone a sweet treat.

Summertime is a truly spectacular season at Harrington Grove. The sleeves are shorter and we get used to not having to take a jacket with us when we venture out! The community facilities beckon residents with promises of refreshing dips and neighbourly laughs, and the longer days tempt everyone to go slower and soak it all in.

During the warmer months, the Harrington Grove Country Club and Magnolia Club become homes away from home for Harrington Grove residents. The Michelia Club is also available to residents and each offer pools and barbecue facilities that are ideal for whiling away the afternoon or enjoying a twilight swim. The lush green lawns are ideal for casual picnics and energetic children alike, while the full-sized tennis courts and gyms provide even more options.

With everyone having a bit more time on their hands, summer is the ideal time to set up community events. Why not start a round robin tennis tournament? Perhaps a touch footy competition? Upgrades to Oran Park Drive

Harrington Estates has recently completed important upgrades to Oran Park Drive, which will be sure to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. Oran Park Drive is an important thoroughfare for residents of Catherine Park Estate and Harrington Grove, as well as families of students from St Justins and St Benedicts. In order to cater for the increasing volume of road users, Harrington Estates undertook the road upgrades to ensure that travelling on Oran Park Drive is safer, faster and easier.

One of the most important aspects of how Harrington Estates have approached Harrington Grove is the preservation of large areas of Cumberland Plan Woodland within the estate.

Despite early stages of the development requiring the removal of some areas of bushland, embracing and nurturing large areas of the surrounding Harrington Forest have always been central to the long-term vision for Harrington Grove. To further enhance this vision, Harrington Estates have created a sustainable funding model to ensure the continued growth and preservation of natural flora.

To further improve the biodiversity of the local area and to provide additional funds for the management of the bushland, Harrington Estates entered into an agreement with the Commonwealth Department of the Environment to establish a native seed nursery onsite to substantially increase the diversity of plant species used in local revegetation projects.

A pilot nursery was established to test the viability of growing small, herbaceous species in a controlled environment and collecting the seed to use in local revegetation projects.

The success of the pilot nursery has allowed Harrington Estates to invest in upgrading the nursery to a commercial scale operation, with the funds from the sale of seed to revegetation projects going towards the long-term maintenance of bushland in Harrington Grove and nearby Catherine Park Estate.

This has allowed additional financial support for an existing community scheme as well as increasing the diversity of species used.
